Introduction
Delacon’s Google Ads (AdWords) CallOnly ad mapping enables you to place call tracking numbers into Google’s Ads' CallOnly ads. This allows calls made directly from the CallOnly ad without the caller clicking through to the landing page to be tracked.
NOTE, due to different attribution models, you will need to set up a dedicated number to track this type of ad and you can't use the same tracking number that you use for call extension.
Below are the steps to get you starting with tracking your CallOnly ads:
- Set up your service and call tracking numbers.
- Set up Delacon’s Google Ads integration for CallOnly Ads.
- Enter the Call Tracking numbers into your Google Ads CallOnly ads.
Setup
Step 1 – Setup of CID and Call Tracking numbers
CIDs created for CallOnly ads should only have one number associated with them. If you are creating multiple CallOnly ads, you will need to follow this process for each number.
To order new numbers through our portal, please follow this process.
If you require a large amount of new numbers, please email orders@delaconcorp.com with the quantity of new call tracking numbers you require and Delacon’s Provisioning Team will set these up for you.
Step 2 – Set up Delacon Google Ads Integration for CallOnly Ads
Mapping the service to Adwords allows Delacon to obtain keyword and other Adwords campaign data. Please follow this guide to set up your Google Ads integration. When it comes to "Part II Map your Delacon campaigns to your Ad accounts" Step 6 ensure to select "Call Only Campaigns" from the drop-down menu as the Tracking Type
- Select the tracking type from the drop-down menu based on where the tracking service will be used: Website, Call Extension or Call Only
- note, that you can't use the same service for multiple tracking types
Make sure to define whether you are using Google Forwarding (GFN) or not. Once everything is defined, click 'Submit'. Please note that “on addition” for the Adwords mapping, the time zone is chosen from Google Adwords for the AdWords ID selected.
You have completed the Delacon CallOnly ads Setup. To enter the call tracking numbers as your Google Ads CallOnly ad numbers in your Google Ads campaigns, please follow the process in step 3.
Please note: you can map multiple tracking numbers to one Google Ads ID, but you cannot map a tracking number to multiple Google Ads IDs.
Step 3 – Add new call tracking numbers into Google Ads
You have two options when adding new call tracking numbers to Google Ads. You can either add them at a Campaign level or at an AdGroup level. The process for adding to either Campaigns or AdGroups is the same:
Step 3.1
Sign into your Google Ads account
Step 3.2
Navigate to 'Campaigns' in the left-hand menu:
Step 3.3
Click Ads & extensions in the left-hand menu, and then click Ads:
Step 3.4
Click on “+” icon and select “Call Ad” from the pop-up menu.
Step 3.5
Select the Campaign and AdGroup for the Campaign
Step 3.6
Select the country you are setting up CallOnly Ads for and enter the Delacon Call Tracking number you have been assigned:
Fill in the remainder of the fields with your required Headline(s), Description(s), etc.
Please note, the integration can only recognise specific number formats. Please add the number in one of below formats without the country code:
| Country | Accepted Number Formats |
| Australia 1300 and 1800 numbers | 1300 xxx xxx OR 1300-xxx-xxx |
| Australia 04 mobile | 04xx xxx xxx OR 04 xx xx xx xx |
| Australia local |
(xx) xxxx xxxx OR xx xxxx xxxx OR xxxx xxx xxx |
| US/Canada | (xxx) xxx xxxx OR xxx-xxx-xxxx OR (xxx) xxx-xxxx |
| NZ | (xx) xxxx xxx OR xx xxxx xxx OR xxxx xxx xx |
| NZ mobile | xxxx xxx xxxx OR (xxxx) xxx-xxxx OR xx xxx xxx xxx |
Step 3.7
It is strongly recommended that you ensure Call Reporting is turned on for your Google Ads account:
Follow the instructions here to manage Call Reporting in Google Ads.
If it is turned on, when a call is made, Google Ads will show the Delacon number on the Google Search Results but a Google Call Forwarding number on the dial pad which will forward to the same Delacon number. This way Google also maintains some basic call data.
Delacon system uses Google call details to match with Delacon call details to obtain the AdGroup and the Campaign. This helps in getting to the advertisement and the keyword for which this CallOnly ad was shown in Google Search Results.
Once Call Reporting is turned on, please contact your Delacon Account Manager so that the appropriate configuration can be managed on the Delacon side to allow you to utilise Google Call Details.
Step 3.8
Click 'Save New Ad'.
Step 3.9
Repeat the above process for every Campaign/AdGroup you are adding a CallOnly ad to.
Please note:
- Please make sure the number chosen for CallOnly ads is not used for any other call extensions or location extensions. Otherwise, this will conflict with the call extensions at the time of data gathering process from Google Ads.
- If you have not previously verified the ownership of your domain in Google Ads, you may find that your CallOnly ads get disapproved. This happens when Google crawls the website and does not find the Delacon number that is being used in the call extensions.
There are two ways to fix this issue, which are covered in this support article: https://support.google.com/adwordspolicy/answer/6368661
Please navigate down to the ‘Unverified phone number’ section.
